manifesto
acrylic
projection screen, chair, single channel video loop with sound approx:
53 sec., 2007
A small screen is suspended above a chair, in
the position relative to where a the artist’s head would be if the
artist were sitting in the chair. A slow motion video projected
from behind on
the screen fades from black into a head to shoulder shot video of the
artist. A
sheet of paper is lifted in front of the face. Slowly an impression
is forming on the paper from behind. Then the tongue violently
punctures the paper, holds, then fades back to black. This video sequence
is looped to play continuously.
In this work, the paper contains no
text; the tongue says no words. The
manifesto here is a loud declaration without words. It is a performative
act without the performer present.
